This project is a ground-up reimagining of the iconic year 2000 RPG, initially titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from recent Dragon Quest remakes, such as the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this version adopts a striking three-dimensional art style. Environments appear to evoke intricate miniature worlds, with protagonists featuring a whimsical chibi-esque look.

"Taking into account the 3DS remake, the story was still quite lengthy. So we came to a conclusion that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this experience for modern gamers."

Significant Mechanical Enhancements & Modernizations

The creators have introduced several modernizations to streamline the classic gameplay loop. Among these are:

• Expedited Field Encounters: Inspired by contemporary role-playing games, low-level foes are now defeated instantly on the field without initiating a full traditional battle sequence.
• Variable Battle Speed: Players can speed up combat animations to quickly power through simpler encounters.
• New Job Mechanics: A completely new job class has been created for this remake. Furthermore, characters gain the option to master a second job, greatly expanding strategic depth.

Such refinements are aimed at address a key the 2000 title's frequent points of feedback: its considerable scope. That initial adventure was known to require over 100 hours to see through. This reimagined edition was specifically reworked to enhance flow and reduce perceived bloat.
