A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
